I was delighted to receive an email recently from Sue Sims, who runs Bristol-based Poetry Space. I’ve enjoyed their quarterly showcases, which typically include a dozen poems by writers at various stages of their development.
At the time I submitted, I added “The Blackbird’s Retort” on a whim, reasoning that a poem inspired by a Wurzels song would be a good (if somewhat tongue-in-cheek) fit for a publication which is based in the West Country. However, Sue said that the guest editor, Prem Kumar Srivastava, is Associate Professor of English at The University of Delhi, so I very much doubt that she’ll be aware of Somerset’s finest Scrumpy & Western outfit!
