“St Gerasimus” in Thief Magazine

I got back from holiday on Saturday (Ibiza, since you asked) to find that one of my poems has been published in a new and very handsome-looking online magazine called Thief.

It was written about an incredible procession we witnessed during our honeymoon in Kefalonia in 2009, where the relics of St Gerasimus are brought out of the monastery near Valsamata every August 16th – it’s featured in Louis de Bernière’s Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. It was one of those moments where even as a non-believer I found myself getting caught up in the atmosphere.

Needless to say the poem came about thanks to a prompt by Jo Bell during 52 last year.

You can read it at https://readymag.com/tribe/150961/35/ but do also check out the rest of this great new publication, which has been put together by Plymouth-based Tribe.
